Two Tropical Depressions Threaten Land - Hurricane Season Live Coverage

Two Tropical Depressions formed in the Atlantic basin within the past 24 hours, and both systems threaten land, with tropical storm watches and warnings ahead of these tropical cyclones.

Tropical Depression Thirteen (TD13) formed late last night east of the Lesser Antilles, and has prompted tropical storm watches in portions of the Northern Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico. This storm is currently expected to become a tropical storm tomorrow, and it could impact the United States as a hurricane early next week, although the forecast intensity at that time is of a lower confidence than usual due to potential land interaction with Hispaniola and Cuba.

Tropical Depression Fourteen (TD14) formed this morning in the Caribbean Sea, and has now had its center found further south and west than was seen earlier today, meaning that a landfall as a tropical storm in Central America is likely, which has prompted tropical storm warnings. The system is expected to then reemerge back over the Northwestern Caribbean Sea, and strike the Yucatan peninsula before moving into the Gulf of Mexico, potentially striking the Western Gulf Coast of the United States early next week, although this is subject to change.

In the Eastern Pacific Basin, Tropical Storm Genevieve is still impacting portions of Baja California with tropical storm force winds, and tropical storm warnings are still in place. Genevieve is forecast to begin moving away from the peninsula, and weaken into a remnant low. In the Western Pacific Basin, Invest 90W is located near the Philippines, and should be watched closely over the coming days as numerous models develop it into a powerful typhoon with potential impacts in Japan and South Korea.
