Tropical Storm Laura has formed off the east of the Lesser Antilles, and is the twelfth named storm of the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Laura is forecast to move directly over significant parts of the Lesser Antilles and Greater Antilles, and significant impacts including potentially life threatening flash flooding and mudslides, heavy rainfall and tropical storm force sustained winds are possible over areas that have tropical storm watches or warnings in place. Impacts for the United States aren't quite clear at this time due to a higher than usual level of uncertainty in the intensity forecast, but a hurricane impact in the Gulf Coast is the consensus forecast right now.

Note: Laura is the earliest L named storm on record in the Atlantic basin, beating Tropical Storm Lee of 2005.
