Operating the Baofeng UV-5R Without a License Using the Family Radio Ser...
The Baofeng UV-5R radio is capable of operating outside the ham radio band - it is a "open" radio.
You can take advantage of this if you use the Baofeng, by programing it to operate on the Family Radio Service (FRS) frequencies.
It will then will act like normal walkie-talkie.
It is much better to operate on the FRS frequencies then it is to use the ham bands unlicensed.
