After Hurricane Genevieve peaked as a Category 4 in the Eastern Pacific, off the western coast of Mexico, it has significantly weakened as it affects the southern portion of the Baja California Peninsula as a Category 1 storm.

Invest 98L could become a tropical depression at any time as it approaches the Caribbean, and 97L could form Friday or Saturday in the Caribbean Sea.

Elsewhere, Typhoon Higos made landfall in southern China yesterday, west of Macau and Hong Kong, and is dissipating over China.
